Love Jihad: Main accused held for rape & negligence, UP Police mum on conversion angle

Shahjahanpur, 29 May: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur have detained a man and his nephew in connection with an alleged rape and the death a woman as a result of neglect.

He claimed that further investigation into conversion charges are going on. Officers stated that the 24-year-old main accused, who is from Lakhimpur Kheri, was reportedly in a live-in relationship with a 21-year-old woman from another village, and that they had been living on rented premises for the previous ten months.

According to the authorities, the accused transported the victim to a government hospital early on Sunday morning after she complained of acute stomach ache. “The woman was admitted to the hospital under a false name,” stated one officer.

The accused stated that she was pregnant and that her condition began to deteriorate after he gave her abortion medication.

After that, the accused told her relatives of her death. The family members quickly arrived from Lakhimpur Kheri and blamed the man for their daughter’s death.

Meanwhile, the police arrived at the hospital after being notified of the situation.

According to the officer, the death was caused by a haemorrhage and infection caused by a ruptured fallopian tube, according to the post-mortem report.

According to Superintendent of Police (Shahjahanpur) S Anand, the accused and his nephew, who was also there when the woman was transported to the hospital, were detained and later produced before a local court, which sentenced them to judicial imprisonment.

According to investigators, the woman was transferred to Shahjahanpur roughly ten months ago. Her relatives informed the police that they were aware she was renting a room in Shahjahanpur but had no idea where she was residing.

During interrogation, the accused stated that he met the woman in Lakhimpur Kheri. They swapped phone numbers and remained in contact. The woman was relocated to Shahjahanpur around ten months ago. He, too, moved there soon after, and they began living together.

He said that she notified him of her pregnancy three days ago and attempted to get abortion drugs.

Amit Chaurasia, Circle Officer (Shahjahanpur), stated, “He told us that he bought medicine from a shop and gave it to her. She began to complain of pain after consuming it.

The accused alerted his nephew of the situation, and the two of them drove her to a government hospital, where she died during treatment.

An FIR was filed against the accused and his nephew based on a complaint from the woman’s family under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (rape), 304 (causing death by carelessness), 328 (causing pain by means of poison, etc with intent to commit crime), and 419 (cheating by personating).
