Lucknow, 6 Feb: The Uttar Pradesh Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) detained two accused members of a group that smuggled bogus Indian rupee notes from Bangladesh into the state’s various districts on Tuesday. Counterfeit cash of ₹ 45,000 was purportedly found from their possession.
In a statement, Uttar Pradesh acting Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar stated that the ATS team apprehended Ankur Maurya and Vipin Gupta alias Avneesh, residents of Chintaura in Ambedkar Nagar district, carrying fake cash from Varanasi this afternoon.
The ATS had got information that the two had arrived in Varanasi with bogus cash carried from Bangladesh by their accomplice from Farakka, West Bengal.
The two detainees were part of a group that supplied phony Indian currency notes transported from Bangladesh to several areas of the state, according to the statement, which added that ?45000 in fake currency notes were recovered from them.
