Barabanki, Sep 28: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki apprehended three suspects after seizing 24 kg of morphine worth Rs 20 crore in the international market.
Two other defendants, however, escaped. According to police, the gang obtained raw materials from northeastern regions in order to manufacture morphine, which was subsequently shipped to Bihar, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.
The accused Shani Verma, Ashok Kumar, and Mahendra Singh are history-sheeters and members of an organized crime, according to SHO, Lonikatra, Ankit Tripathi.
“During investigation, it came to light that the accused used to smuggle illegal drugs on a large-scale in Barabanki, Lucknow and surrounding districts as well as in other states through the two recovered vehicles,” stated Tripathi.
According to sources, one of the absconding suspects, Haji Shahbaz, kept the front section of his house unclean and decaying in order to fool authorities into thinking his activities were legitimate. His mansion, on the other hand, has all the conveniences and is outfitted with modern equipment.
The SHO stated that the location where Haji Shahbaz and another absconding accused Osama used to create high-quality morphine is being tracked.
