Lucknow, 5 Aug: Three men were arrested on Friday night in Deoria for reportedly gang-raping a Class 10 girl and attempting to convert her to Islam, the police said.
Dinesh Mishra, SHO of Tarkulwan, stated that the girl was on her way to school on Thursday when she was stopped by three men who forcibly took her to a sugarcane field and gang-raped her.
He said that the girl’s mother accused one of the teens of pursuing her daughter and attempting to push her to convert to Islam.
“When my daughter raised the alarm, the accused threatened to make her video go viral and fled the scene. On Thursday, she failed to notify us of the event. She declined to attend class on Friday. When I asked why, she broke down and told me about her ordeal,” the girl’s mother stated.
The survivor’s mother alerted the authorities that the accused were from a neighbouring village.
“We have filed a FIR on gang rape charges as well as the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act,” Mishra added.
Sankalp Sharma, Superintendent of Police in Deoria, stated that the trio had been held and that additional investigations were underway in the matter.
