Lucknow, 16 October: Anti Romeo Squad is running a special campaign to crack down on bullies and miscreants in Uttar Pradesh.
The six-month long operation was carried out by 1678 anti-Romeo squads, comprising 3324 male and 4090 female police personnel.
The squad checked 30,76,246 places in the state to identify the victims. These include schools, public places like intersections, markets, malls, parks and other places. A total of 1,34,33,261 persons were checked at these places.
During this period, 7563 cases were registered, while 9512 persons were arrested. Whereas 48,92,991 persons were released with warning. Anti Romeo Squad took action at zone and commissionerate level in the entire state.
Director General of Police Vijay Kumar said on Monday that as per the intention of the government, to provide a safe environment to daughters and women in the state, the Anti Romeo Squad conducts campaigns from time to time to take action against miscreants.
In this sequence, a special campaign was conducted by the squad across the state in 6 months.
In such a situation, 1413 anti Romeo squads were activated in eight zones for action at the zone level, which includes 2977 male policemen and 3499 female policemen. The squad checked at 25,40,012 places in the state to identify the victims.
These include schools, public places like intersections, markets, malls, parks and other places. A total of 97,75,616 persons were checked at these places. During this period, 7097 cases were registered, while 8951 persons were arrested. 44,31,216 persons were released with warning.
Anti Romeo Squad took maximum action in Agra zone, where 12,73,120 persons were checked while checking 474493 places. 637 cases were registered while 1114 persons were arrested.
Similarly, Bareilly zone is at second place, Lucknow zone is at third place, Varanasi is at fourth place and Gorakhpur zone is at fifth place.
He said that 265 anti-Romeo squads were activated in seven commissionerates of the state, which includes 347 male policemen and 591 female policemen. The squad checked 5,36,234 places in the state to identify the accused.
A total of 36,57,645 persons were checked at these places. During this period, 466 cases were registered, while 561 persons were arrested. 4,61,775 persons were released with warning.
Anti Romeo Squad took maximum action in Agra Commissionerate, where 5,01,165 persons were checked while checking 1,35,752 places. 60 cases were registered, while 92 persons were arrested.
Similarly, Lucknow is at second place, Kanpur at third place, Gautam Buddha Nagar at fourth place and Ghaziabad Commissionerate at fifth place.
