Lucknow, 15 July: The Mankameshwar temple, Lucknow’s oldest Shiva temple, has set a dress code for individuals conducting ‘Rudrabhishek’ in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. The rules of the Ujjain Mahakal temple must be observed for Rudrabhishek in the sanctum sanctorum. Men would be required to wear dhotis and women would be required to wear saris.

According to Mahant Divyagiri, if the dress code is maintained in every institution, it should also be followed in sacred locations.

This Ramayana-era temple is located on the banks of the Gomti. After leaving Mother Sita in exile, King Lakshman of Lakhanpur is said to have stopped here and worshiped Lord Shiva, which helped him find inner peace. Following that, the Mankameshwar temple was built.
