Lucknow, 27 Oct: Beginning on Friday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) will undertake a review of electoral lists in all UP Assembly seats. The exercise will go until December 9th. After resolving claims and objections to the inclusion of names on the voters list by December 26, the final publishing of electoral rolls will take place on January 5, 2024.
The ECI has also prohibited transfers of officers involved in electoral roll revision, such as district election officers, deputy district election officers, electoral registration officers, and assistant electoral registration officers, until January 20, 2024. If the officials must be moved, the state government would have to get approval from the ECI, according to Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa.
On October 27, the draft electoral rolls will be issued.
He stated that it will be placed at all authorized locations in all Assembly seats to attract claims and objections. The draft electoral roll will also be available on the website of the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh (UP). The additional voter list will also be published on the CEO website. The qualifying date for new voter registration will be January 1, 2024.
A specific appeal has been made to voters between the ages of 18 and 19 to enroll their names in the voter list by completing Form-6 and exercising their right in the next elections.
According to draft electoral roll statistics, Uttar Pradesh has 15,03,39,879 voters, comprising 8,05,15,501 men, 6,98,16,532 females, and 7,846 third gender voters. After January 5, a total of 17,20,088 new voters were added to the voters list in Uttar Pradesh, while the names of 18,60,774 voters were removed.
In the draft electoral roll, the gender ratio is 867, while the elector population (EP) ratio is 60.93%. The state now has 1,62,012 voting booths and 92,587 polling stations.
“To remove apathy among the urban voters towards polling, special efforts are being made to set up polling booths in multi-storey buildings and gated colonies on the same premises or at the nearest spot,” said Navdeep Rinwa, the chief electoral officer of UP.
