Lucknow: UPSRTC contract bus driver climbs mobile tower over non-payment of salary

Lucknow, June 23: A contract bus driver Raju Saini of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) climbed over a mobile tower in Kaiserbagh in the state capital Lucknow on Sunday.

Meanwhile, his wife and children sat on a dharna under the tower. As soon as the information of the incident was received, panic erupted in the Transport Department and the Police Department.

On receiving the information, the Kaiserbagh police and transport department officials reached the spot and tried to get him down from the tower by promising to pay the salary soon, but his demand was that he would come down from the tower only after the arrival of the Transport Minister. He started threatening to commit suicide by jumping.

According to the police, Raju Saini, working in Hatrauli of Aligarh district, is a contract bus driver. On Sunday, he reached the Kaiserbagh bus station with his wife Bhavna, son Aman and daughter Khushboo. He climbed a mobile tower built here. While his wife sat on a dharna with the children.

On receiving the information, police, fire brigade and transport corporation officials reached the spot and tried to persuade him. He said that he has not been paid his salary for many months and he is being harassed when he asks for it. His family is on the verge of starvation due to non-payment of salary. Children’s education has also stopped. He will not get down till the Transport Minister comes here. If the administration troubles him, he will jump from here. He is sending all his information to the police and administration through his wife’s mobile.

RM RK Tripathi of Kaiserbagh bus station also reached the spot. He said that the cashier has been called and whatever salary the driver has due will be given to him.

According to the corporation, Raju Saini is also accused of being negligent towards his duty.
