Mumbai, 20 July: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed grief over the deaths in the landslide in Irshalwadi of Raigad districts of Maharashtra.
Although 75 people were rescued, 60 more are suspected to be under the debris. Ten bodies have been recovered so far. Shinde has announced financial aid of ?5 lakh each to the families of the deceased in the accident.
Around 25 families suffered as their homes were buried under the debris. The landslide occurred around 10.30 pm on Wednesday due to heavy rains.
The hutments at the base of Irsal mound in Khalapur taluka were mainly of tribals working as labourers. The spot is about 6 Km from Chouk village in Khalapur taluka, near the Morbe Dam.
The Food and Civil Supplies Ministry is supplying food packets under its Shiv Bhojan Thali scheme. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal announced that besides the food packets, the villagers will be given 5 liters of kerosene, 10 Kg rice, 10 Kg wheat or wheat flour, Tuwar pulse, edible oil, sugar etc.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reached the affected village and consoled the survivors. Maharashtra Ministers Uday Samant and Dada Bhuse also reached the spot in the morning.
The injured have been admitted to MGM Hospital in Kalamboli. Minister for Women and Child Development Aditi Tatkare visited the hospital and enquired about treatment being imparted to the injured.
A special Police Control Room has been established in the village itself, with phone number 810819554 for any kind of help required by the villagers.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed about the incident to the members of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. As per preliminary information, 48 families were living in the village. Two teams of NDRF have left for the village.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also reached the Emergency Control Room and enquired about the accident and the relief work.
