Maharashtra: Shinde govt to recognise Dahi-Handi’ as sport

Mumbai, August 18: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that he will recognize ‘Dahi-Handi’ under the sports category in Maharashtra ahead of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.

He said that Govind would get jobs under the sports category. An insurance cover of Rs.10 lakh will be provided to all ‘Govindas’ during the ‘Dahi-Handi’ competition.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told the Vidhan Sabha that the state government would provide financial assistance to Govinda, who was injured in an accident while building Manav Minar while celebrating the birth anniversary of Shri Krishna. In the event of the sudden death of any Govinda, financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh will be given to his family members. Similarly, financial assistance of seven and a half lakh rupees to Govinda, who is seriously injured, and Rs 5 lakh to the general injured Govinda, will be given from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The Chief Minister said that this help would be given directly from the government this year. From next year, all Govindas would be insured for Rs 10 lakh. Along with this, building a human tower during the birth anniversary of Shri Krishna will be included in the adventure game, and this game will be given facilities like Kabaddi and Kho Kho. Govinda, the participant in this game, will also be given a 5% reservation in government jobs. Financial assistance is planned.

In the assembly on Thursday morning, Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu demanded that the Manav Minar be built during the celebration of Shri Krishna’s birth anniversary in Maharashtra should be given the status of a courageous game and Govindas injured in this game should get free treatment in all government and local civic body-run hospitals. had to decide to leave. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said several other MLAs, including MLA Pratap Sarnaik, had also made similar demands.
