Lucknow, July 04: An accused who threw acid on a girl in Chowk area on Wednesday morning in which her brother also got burnt while trying to save her sister has been arrested in a police encounter on Wednesday-Thursday night.
The accused has been admitted to KGMU for treatment.ย
DCP Durgesh Kumar said on Thursday that the victim’s family in the acid attack case suspected a youth named Abhishek Verma. It was alleged that he has been harassing the daughter by calling her for several days. Meanwhile, the police took the case seriously and deployed four teams to search for the accused. All the CCTVs of the incident spot and the surrounding area were searched.
DCP apprised in detail that during this, the police got information that the accused they were looking for was hiding near Gulala Ghat. After this, when the police team surrounded and tried to catch him, he started firing. In retaliation, the police fired and the accused got injured. He was arrested. He has been identified as Abhishek Verma, a resident of Lakhimpur. Police are now investigating the reason for throwing acid on a girl.ย
