Noida, 10 Oct: Officials said on Tuesday that a 24-year-old man detained for allegedly assaulting his former spouse was hurt in a pre-dawn incident while attempting to escape police custody. The accused, a vehicle driver, was arrested on Monday for reportedly assaulting his former spouse of five years following a disagreement.

According to Hridesh Katheria, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida), the woman filed a complaint against Amar, accusing him of assaulting her near the Eldeco Utopia complex in Sector 93.

“Amar repeatedly attacked his former partner with a knife, intending to kill her. When a police team was alerted, they immediately arrived on the scene and rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment, while a FIR was later filed,” Katheria explained.

According to Amar, the local police arrested him from his house in Gejha village and took him to a location near Eldeco Utopia to retrieve the weapon used in the murder. “While returning from the spot after recovering the craft knife (blade), the accused snatched the pistol of a police personnel and made an attempt to escape, prompting the police to open fire in defence,” Katheria stated in a press release.

“A bullet struck the accused in the leg, and he was taken into custody in an injured state. He was later transported to a hospital for treatment,” stated the officer.

According to Vindhyachal Tiwari, the in-charge of the local Phase 2 police station, the accused was brought for the retrieval of the firearm around 2-3 a.m. He also stated that the woman hurt in Amar’s attack is no longer in danger.

According to the police, additional legal actions are being carried out.
