Modi Assam Update: PM rolls out development projects worth crore

New Delhi, 4 Feb: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth ₹ 11,600 crore in Assam. Infrastructure projects, some financed by the state government and others by the Centre, were launched during a ceremony at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Guwahati.

The foundation stones were laid for several major projects, including the Kamakhya temple corridor (₹ 498 crore), the six-lane road from the new airport terminal in Guwahati (₹ 358 crore), the upgrade of Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards (₹ 831 crore), and a new sports complex in Chandrapur (₹300 crore). The PM also launched the second edition of the ‘Asom Mala’ road project. This phase would involve updating and building 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges, with a total cost of ₹ 3,444 crore.

Modi also lay the groundwork for the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital’s integrated new facility, which would cost ₹ 3,250 crore to complete. He also laid the groundwork for the projected Karimganj Medical College and Hospital, which would cost ₹ 578 crore, as well as the ₹297 crore Unity Mall in Guwahati.

Modi inaugurated a four-lane road from Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, which cost ₹ 1,451 crore, and another four-lane road from Dolabari to Jamuguri, which cost ?592 crore. Modi landed on Saturday evening and spent the night at the Koinadhara State Guest House in the city.

He met with the BJP’s state core committee office bearers at night to discuss party issues, according to a senior official. “In the meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, state BJP President Bhabesh Kalita and other party leaders were present,” said an official privy to the meeting.
