Lucknow, 4 July: Lucknow will soon have four dedicated โVanar Vansโ (Monkey forest) on its outskirts to combat the city’s burgeoning monkey problem. The first monkey forest will be constructed as a trial project on six acres of land in the Umaria village in the Bakshi-Ka-Talab area of โโthe district, followed by similar forests in the city’s four corners.
Meanwhile, Laxman Vanar Van would be the name given to the Umaria monkey forest.
According to Suryapal Gangwar, district magistrate, “At the moment, Umaria is being developed, but an action plan is also in the works to build a monkey forest on the city’s four outskirts. Fruit trees will be planted in the forest to ensure that the monkeys have adequate food throughout the year.
Recently, Lucknow has seen an increase in the number of monkeys causing problems in residential areas. A number of mishaps have also been recorded in these locations, with at least a half-dozen youngsters killed or maimed after being chased by monkeys.
