Morbi Bridge Update: PM Modi to visit tomorrow

Ahmedabad, 31 October: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Morbi on Tuesday to express his condolences on the death of people on the collapse of Morbi cable bridge in the Machchu rive. The Prime Minister will also meet the families of the dead and the injured.

In a statement issued by the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office on Monday, it was informed that Prime Minister Modi will visit the injured in the hospital in the afternoon and will also express condolences and meeting the families of the deceased.

In a simple ceremony organised at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia in Narmada district, Prime Minister Modi discussed about the Morbi bridge accident and said that he may be in Ekta Nagar, but his mind is still in Morbi. With tears, the Prime Minister in his address said that his heart is full of pain, while on the other hand he is on the path of Karma and Duty.

The Prime Minister said that he has deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. He said that on the occasion of National Unity Day, in this hour of sorrow, the whole country expresses its condolences for the accident while staying on the duty path.

More than 400 people had fallen into the river due to the sudden collapse of the cable bridge over the Machhu river in Morbi on Sunday. So far, 141 people have died in this accident. A total of ?6 lakh, including ?4 lakh from the state government and ?2 lakh from the central government, to the next of kin of those killed in this accident and the injured have been announced.
