Lucknow, 29 July: According to statistics supplied by the local Indian Meteorological Centre, forty of the state’s 75 districts have received insufficient rainfall this monsoon season.
According to statistics from the India Meteorological Centre Lucknow, these 40 districts got insufficient rainfall from the start of the monsoon in the first week of June till July 28. The bulk of these districts are located in the eastern UP.
The districts of Kaushambi, Kushinagar, and Deoria got over 70% less rainfall than their Long Period Average (LPA). Other districts that got very little rain were Santkabirnagar, Pilibhit, Mirzapur, Shrawasti, Chandauli, and Basti. The lack of rain has begun to alarm farmers planning for kharif crop and maize planting.
Menthol is another crop that scientists believe may suffer as a result of decreased rain. Aside from the 40 districts that received insufficient rainfall, 18 had normal rainfall, while the remaining 17 experienced extra rain over the same period.
