Mumbai, October 08: Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said that the owners of two small media channels have been arrested in the fake Television Rating Point (TRP) case.

“However, the involvement of big media channels has been reported in this case. People from the channels involved in this racket will be summoned and called for questioning,” Singh told.

Singh said that this information will also be sent to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Parambir Singh told reporters on Thursday that the advertisement in the channel is also decided on the assessment of TRP. This assessment was handled by a company called Hansa in Mumbai.

“The Mumbai Police has registered a case only on the complaint of a former employee of the company. In this case the directors of Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema Channel have been arrested. During interrogation, it has been found that the people of the channel used to install TRP meters in the houses of the particular person and gave them 400-500 rupees to house hold,” apprised CP Mumbai.

Singh further told that house holders who were paid and provided with reading meters, bargained to have the same channel started throughout the day. In Mumbai, such meters were installed in more than two thousand such houses. In this case, the police have recovered Rs 20 lakh from the accused’s bank and Rs 8.5 lakh from his locker.

Parambir Singh said that a thorough investigation will be done into the matter and those running fake TRP rackets will not be spared.
