New Delhi, June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday and submitted his resignation along with the Council of Ministers. The President accepted the resignation and requested Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to remain in office till the formation of a new government.
Earlier, in the last meeting of the union Cabinet held at the Prime Minister’s residence on Wednesday under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was decided to recommend the President to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha. After this, Prime Minister Modi reached Rashtrapati Bhavan and submitted his and his cabinet’s resignation to President Murmu.
As per the procedure, the President asked him to remain in office till the formation of a new government. The Election Commission will send the President the information of the completion of the election process along with the final list of the results of the Lok Sabha elections in a day or two, with which the process of formation of the new government will begin. With the clear majority received by the largest party BJP and the NDA alliance, it is certain that Modi will take oath for his third term.
The term of the 17th Lok Sabha is going to end on 16th June. In the results that came on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the largest party and has got 240 seats. This is 32 seats short of the majority but the NDA, which was formed before the elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, has got the absolute majority.
On Wednesday evening, a meeting of NDA leaders is to be held at the Prime Minister’s residence, in which a decision will be taken about the formation of the next government along with the claim to form the government.
