New Delhi, 8 November: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that we need to take the scope of organic farming in the country to 50 percent. Today we are self-sufficient in the food grain sector but now is the time to take organic products to the country and the world. National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL) will help the farmers in this direction.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah stated, this organization will help the farmers in purchasing their produce, packaging, marketing, storage, distribution etc. NCOL will also assist in the certification of farmers’ products.
Speaking at the National Seminar on “Promotion of Organic Products through National Cooperative Organics Limited” organized at NASC Complex, ICAR Convention Centre, Pusa on Wednesday, Shah said that there was a misconception about organic farming that it reduces the yield but today many farmers Have broken this illusion. By doing organic farming, farmers have increased their income along with their produce. There are many successful models in the country.
He said, the Central Government is also committed to promoting organic products. That is why the Modi government had formed National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL). Through this, Indian organic products will be delivered to the country and the world.
Shah said that in the coming days, NCOL will become a trusted brand in the field of organic products. Today its 06 organic products have been launched. In the coming days, NCOL will deliver Indian organic products to the entire world. It will become a trusted brand.
Shah said that the Modi government is moving forward with the resolve to strengthen cooperation. Almost 90 percent of the people of the country are associated with the cooperative movement in some way or the other. Together we have to create an environment for organic farming. Many steps have been taken by the government in this direction. Shah requested the farmers to turn to organic farming. Reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.
Shah launched the logo, website and brochure of National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL) during the programme. During this, Shah also distributed membership certificates to NCOL members. During this one-day seminar, the objectives of NCOL, the importance of organic products as well as role of cooperatives in upliftment of small and marginal farmers will be discussed.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Prosperity through Cooperation”, NCOL has been set up as a national level multi-state cooperative society to make India a world leader in organic products. The Ministry of Cooperation has taken 54 important initiatives in the last 27 months to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country.
The establishment of a national level cooperative society is an important step towards the rural economy, “Make in India”, “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Local to Global” promotion of organic products. NCOL aims to increase profits on produce by providing direct market access to organic farmers and producer organizations. Access to national and international markets under a strong brand will enable NCOL members to get better returns for their organic produce.
The event will be attended by officials from the Central Government, State, union Territory Administration, multi-state cooperative societies, financial institutions, cooperative unions, district cooperative unions, organic certification bodies and testing laboratories, experts in the organic sector and other organic producer stakeholders from across the country. More than 1000 participants have come to Delhi to participate.
NCOL was registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002 on January 25, 2023. The three major cooperative societies of the country – National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Limited (NCCF), Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF) and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) and two major statutory bodies of the Government of India, National Dairy Development Corporation (NDDC) Board (NDDB) and National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) have jointly promoted NCOL.
