Samrat Chowdhury, the state BJP chief, Vijay Kumar, and numerous others took their oaths alongside him at Raj Bhavan. This is also the seventh time in a decade that the 72-year-old has shifted political loyalties, with the regularity of the procedure earning him the nickname “Paltu Kumar”. Kumar had left the BJP in 2022.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, whose party lost power on Sunday as a result of Nitish Kumar’s latest volte-face, predicted that Kumar’s JD(U) will be “finished in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls”.

Former deputy chief minister addressed his former boss as a respected but weary politician, warning the BJP, which has partnered with the JD(U) leadership, that the septuagenarian disliked sharing credit with partners.

Nitish Kumar seemed to object to my receiving credit for many of our government’s successes. It should raise red flags for the BJP, said Yadav. Nitishji is a respectable leader. He used to taunt me when I was in opposition for pledging ten lakh jobs in the 2020 state elections. The young leader answered, “I made him work in that direction.”

He stated that whatever justifications Nitish ji makes for switching sides, his JD(U) is all set to be defeated (khatam hone wala hai) in the Lok Sabha elections. Yadav, the younger son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, was appointed deputy chief minister in August 2022, after Kumar cut relations with the BJP and joined the Mahagathbandhan.

On the other hand, AIMIM head Asaduddin Owaisi took aim at former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday, after JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar switched sides in Bihar and joined forces with the BJP-led NDA.

“How are you feeling, Tejashwi Yadav? He took four of our MLAs away. Is he experiencing the same discomfort now? He has been played in the same way that he played us,” Owaisi stated. Owaisi was referring to four MLAs in the state who switched from the AIMIM to the RJD in June 2022. The AIMIM won five seats in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, but when four MLAs joined the RJD, Owaisi’s party is left with only one MLA.

He also criticised Tejashwi Yadav and his family for “sidelining” Biharis. He stated that their goal is to have one of them become Bihar’s Chief Minister. “The Bihari people have been deceived. Bihar has not seen any progress,” he remarked.

He also slammed JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, claiming that the latter will only be the Chief Minister of Bihar in name and that government will be carried out according to the whims of the RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
