New Delhi, August 17: The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday clarified that no direction has been given by it to give Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) flats to Rohingya ‘illegal’ migrants in Bakkarwala, New Delhi.
The ministry said the Delhi government has proposed to relocate the Rohingya to a new location.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the Delhi government to ensure that Rohingya illegal foreigners remain at the present location.
The Home Ministry has already taken up the matter of their deportation with the country concerned through the Ministry of External Affairs.
It further states that illegal foreigners are to be kept in detention centers as per law till their deportation. The Delhi government has not declared the present location as the detention centre. They have been instructed to do so immediately.
Earlier such confusion had arisen that the central government was making arrangements for their stay and security by giving refugee status to the Rohingya. This happened because Union Minister Hardeep Puri had confirmed this by tweeting.
He had said that India always welcomes people seeking asylum to India. In this sequence, under a decision, all Rohingya refugees will be shifted to EWS flat in Bakkarwala area of ββDelhi. They will be provided with basic facilities, UNHRC ID and round the clock Delhi Police security.
Puri further said that India respects and adheres to the provision of asylum for all under the 1951 United Nations Convention. He said that India’s asylum policy was deliberately linked to CAA and some people made their career in it by spreading rumours, they would be disappointed by this decision.
