Lucknow, 25 Nov: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has proclaimed November 25 a “no non-veg day” to commemorate Sadhu TL Vaswani’s birth anniversary.

According to an official announcement, all meat shops and slaughterhouses in the state would be closed on the aforementioned date.

Sadhu Thanwardas Lilaram Vaswani was an Indian educationist who founded the Mira Movement in Education and established St. Mira’s School in Hyderabad, Sindh (now Pakistan). Darshan Museum, a museum devoted to his life and teaching, was established in Pune. Sadhu Vaswani’s birthday, November 25, is observed as International Meatless Day.

The announcement comes only days after the UP government put an immediate ban on the manufacturing, storage, distribution, and sale of halal-certified food items, while exempting those created for export.
