Protest may involve NGOs and outside elements: DGP
Lucknow, December 22: The district administration has taken full control over the situation after the violence that had occurred on Thursday in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act-2019 in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, except few sporadic incidents have been reported since Thursday. Now the level of damage caused by the violence, identification of the rioters and the preparation to impose National Security Act (NSA) on arsonists is underway.
As a precautionary measures, internet services are still suspended in 15 districts of UP including the capital. A loss of Rs five crore has been estimated in the riot in Lucknow.
Meanwhile, preparations are being made to impose NSA to more than 250 miscreants involved in the violence. Police have also intensified their search to nab rioters after strict instructions from the CM to deal strictly against them. The miscreants are being identified through CCTV footage.
On Saturday, a person died during violent demonstrations in Rampur against the Citizenship Amendment Act, while 15 people including policemen were injured. There were reports of protests and stone pelting in Kanpur Sambhal, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar and Firozabad as well. During the stone pelting in Firozabad, many inspectors and constables were injured including SSP, SP City, City Magistrate, CO City. Internet and SMS services in 15 districts including Lucknow of UP will remain suspended till Monday. So far the death toll in violence in UP has reached 18.
Police have taken action against 11000 miscreants so far, more than 748 people have been arrested. 4500 preventive action has been taken. 265 policemen have been injured and 415 pistols have been recovered. Action has been taken against 13104 people for putting disputed posts on social media. More than 63 FIRs were registered in this case and 442 people were banned.
The UP Police have identified the miscreants and started sending them a recovery notice for the fine. The property will be attached if the penalty is not paid. The miscreants are being identified through CCTV footage. On the other hand, many people caught in the Lucknow violence case have come to know the connection with West Bengal. According to police sources, they were called from Bengal during the violence in Lucknow. Director General of Police Om Prakash Singh said the demonstration may involve NGOs and outside elements. We are investigating and no one will be spared.
