New Delhi, July 14: Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal has refused to allow Contempt of Court proceedings against retired Delhi High Court judge Justice SN Dhingra and two lawyers in the Nupur Sharma case.
The Attorney General said that the statement is within the scope of healthy criticism and should not be construed as contempt of court.
Advocate CR Jaya Sukin had written a letter to the Attorney General seeking his consent to run the case for contempt of court.
The letter cited Justice Dhingra’s statement against the remarks of Supreme Court judges on Nupur Sharma’s statement on Prophet Mohammad. The letter had demanded to initiate contempt proceedings against former ASG Aman Lekhi and Advocate K Rama Kumar.
