Panchayat representatives to attend 78th Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort as special guests

New Delhi, August 13: Panchayat representatives will attend the 78th Independence Day celebrations to be held at the Red Fort on August 15 as special guests.

Apart from this, those Gram Panchayat heads of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh, who have achieved saturation in three or more priority sector schemes and programs of the government, will also be special guests of the government in this function. 400 women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions have also been invited along with their spouses in the Independence Day celebrations. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj gave this information on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj today, under the historic initiative to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level and encourage panchayat representatives, the government has invited elected representatives and women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions as special guests in the 78th Independence Day celebrations to be held at the Red Fort on August 15, 2024.

The ministry said that Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lallan Singh and Minister of State Prof. SP Singh Baghel will felicitate women Panchayati Raj representatives and elected representatives tomorrow at Dr. Ambedkar International Center, Janpath, New Delhi. The felicitation ceremony will be held at 7 pm. As part of the felicitation ceremony, the multilingual e-Gram Swaraj platform will be launched in collaboration with Bhashini.

According to the ministry, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is organizing a National Workshop on Women Leadership in Panchayats at Dr Ambedkar International Center, Janpath, New Delhi at 10:30 am on Wednesday. It will discuss topics related to the change in the role of women in panchayat governance in three decades, leadership of women in public service delivery, dealing with issues of gender equality and social inclusion. The national workshop will be addressed by Kiran Bedi, former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and founder of Navjyoti India Foundation.
