Delhi, 14 December: Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien was suspended from participating in the rest of the winter session of parliament for “gross misconduct” and “defying the Chair” on Thursday morning.

This decision was taken after he had demanded a discussion on the security breach incident in which two men had jumped from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha and burst yellow smoke canisters.

Despite being warned by the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, O’Brien and some other opposition members continued to protest and demanded that union Home Minister Amit Shah be present in the House to answer for yesterday’s incident.

In response to the security breach, eight personnel from the Lok Sabha Secretariat have been suspended. This incident has raised concerns about the security of the Parliament complex, with opposition members demanding a statement from the government on this issue.

Speaker Om Birla has stated that the security of the Parliament complex is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The four individuals involved in this incident have been identified and it has been revealed that they were part of a larger group who had planned this breach.
