PM Modi approves formation of 8th Pay Commission

New Delhi, January 16: The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Soon its chairman and two members will be appointed.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information in a press conference related to the cabinet on Thursday.

He said that the Prime Minister has approved the Eighth Pay Commission. The Pay Commission approves the salaries and allowances of the central government employees. The government provides salary to the employees on its recommendations.

Vaishnav said that since 1947, the Pay Commission has been constituted at regular intervals. So far seven Pay Commissions have been constituted. The recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission was implemented in 2016. Its term is going to be completed in 2026. Earlier in 2025, the Finance Commission has been set up to review it on time and implement the recommendations on time.
