PM Modi expresses joy over approval of ‘Classical Language’ status to Pali- The Language of Buddhism

New Delhi, 24 October: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed happiness over the government’s decision to give classical language status to Pali.

He said that this has awakened a feeling of happiness among those who believe in the thoughts of Lord Buddha.

Modi also thanked the scholars and monks from various countries who participated in the panel discussion on ‘Pali as a classical language’ organized by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) in Colombo. In response to a post by the ‘India in Sri Lanka’ handle on the social media platform X, Modi said, “I am happy that the decision of the Government of India to give classical language status to Pali has awakened a feeling of happiness among those who believe in the thoughts of Lord Buddha. I am grateful to the scholars and monks from various countries who participated in this program in Colombo.”

Earlier, ‘India in Sri Lanka’ wrote in a post, Welcoming India’s recent decision to recognize Pali as a classical language, ICCR Colombo hosted a panel discussion on the topic ‘Pali as a classical language’. Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Dr. Satyanjal Pandey and others participated as chief guests.
