Chennai, January 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new airport building in Tiruchirappalli. The construction of this airport
building has cost approximately โน 1100 crore.
The Prime Minister also addressed the students at the 38th convocation ceremony of Bharathidasan University.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Tiruchirappalli on his visit to Tamil Nadu. Modi inaugurated the new airport building here.
On this occasion, Modi said that this airport will increase connectivity, and through this, there will be a positive impact on the economic development of the region. A large crowd came to listen to the Prime Minister.
This two-story new building will be able to serve more than 44 lakh passengers annually. The new terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and can serve air services to about 3500 passengers even during peak hours. Thrissur is the second-largest airport in Tamil Nadu after Chennai in terms of international air traffic by passengers.
Prime Minister Modi also attended the 38th convocation of the Bharatidasan University here.
Quoting poet Bharathidasan’s ‘Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom’ Tamil verses, Modi said it meant building a new world of brave people. This is also the motto of the university. Modi said that Indian youth are already creating such a world. Modi said the number of patents filed by Indian inventors has increased manifold.
“Our innovators have increased the number of patents from about 4,000 in 2014 to about 50,000 now. India’s scholars are showcasing India’s story to the world as never before. Indian scientists have made their mark on the world map through missions like Chandrayaan.”
Modi said that apart from this, the country’s musicians and artists are continuously bringing international awards to the country. The real purpose of education is to educate people for a better society and country.
It is noteworthy that Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister to address the convocation ceremony of the university, which was established in 1982.
During the programme, the Prime Minister interacted briefly with a group of students.
He asked if anyone was willing to go to Delhi, to which two female students raised their hands.
The Prime Minister paid floral tributes at the statue of revolutionary Tamil poet Bharathidasan (1891-1964) and also posed for group photographs with students, Governor RN Ravi, and Chief Minister MK Stalin.
