Delhi, 20 December: Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, a notorious criminal, was killed in an alleged encounter with the police in Amritsar, Punjab on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, a policeman was also injured during the cross-firing. Singh was arrested on December 19, in connection with a murder case.

During the investigation, he revealed the location of heroin that he had hidden near Dhar village. However, he had not disclosed that he also had a weapon with him. When the police went to retrieve the heroin, Singh pulled out his pistol and fired at them, injuring one official and narrowly missing another.

In self-defence, the police retaliated and Singh was killed. He was declared a fugitive by the Punjab police and gained national attention in March this year when his followers clashed with officials at a police station where one of his close associates was being held.

The followers used the holy book of the Sikh community as a shield during the attack. Singh’s death has brought an end to his reign of terror and criminal activities in Punjab.
