Delhi, April 10: The QS ( Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings for 2024 by subject are out. The ranking has named Delhi University as one of the top universities in the world for the study of 25 subjects.

A total of 69 Indian universities have made it to the QS World University Rankings by subject with 424 entries, 19.4 per cent more than the 355 entries received by 66 universities last year. India is the second most represented country in Asia in terms of number of ranked universities, behind China with 101.

Several Indian institutions have made a strong presence in the QS World University Rankings 2024 by subject. Among these, Delhi University leads the way with an impressive 30 entries. IIT Bombay (28 entries) and IIT Kharagpur (27 entries) are far behind. IIT Madras (22 entries) and IIT Delhi (19 entries) have also performed well.

Jawaharlal Nehru University has made a major stride in the global rankings, debuting at number 20 (for Development Studies) and becoming India’s highest ranked university in the QS World University Rankings 2024 by subject.

A remarkable 72 percent of Indian entries are new compared to last year. This represents a significant year-on-year improvement of 17 percent for India overall.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh said in this regard that Delhi University has got a better position in many subjects this time compared to last year. He said the edition of the QS World University Rankings provides independent comparative analysis on the performance of over 16,400 individual university programmes, taken by students from over 1500 universities in 96 locations globally. These include 55 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas from around the world.

The Vice Chancellor said that Delhi University ranks for 25 of these subjects. Out of these, in 9 subjects DU has secured a higher rank than last year, in 11 subjects the rank has remained the same as last year, while in 4 subjects DU has got the rank for the first time. In this ranking, 368 programs in 68 institutions of India have been ranked. Pro. Yogesh Singh said that this time DU has got much better scores in Development Studies, Anthropology, History, Business and Management Studies, Biological Science, Computer Science and Information Systems, Linguistics, Chemistry and Environmental Science as compared to last year.
