Sambhal, 25 August: UP Police said four people were detained after a 16-year-old gang-rape victim hung herself here on Thursday. They claimed that although one of the suspects was apprehended on Wednesday, three others were apprehended on Thursday.
According to police officials, the rape victim took the drastic measure after reportedly being harassed by the families of the accused for a settlement. Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra suspended the officer in charge of the investigation on Thursday. According to police, the post-mortem analysis indicated that the girl died from hanging. After the girl’s family members filed a complaint claiming gang rape on August 15, police filed a FIR and started an investigation.
After she committed suicide, her family members informed authorities that the accused’s relatives were pressuring her to agree to a settlement, which hurt her so much that she took the drastic measure.
