Rare and endangered species of markhor (wild capra) surfaced in Baramulla, North Kashmir

Srinagar, 07 December: A rare and endangered species of spiral-horned markhor (wild goat) was spotted in Nurkha village of Boniyar in Baramulla district of North Kashmir on Saturday morning, this information was shared by the officials.

Administrative officials said that the locals saw the animal near a waterfall in Nurkha and immediately informed the officials, after which a team of police and wildlife officials visited the spot.

They said that this rare species has been seen in this area for the first time. They speculated that it may have come from the other side of the border.

The official said that efforts are on to capture the animal to ensure its safety. Locals have been advised to avoid going close to the operation site.

Markhor is a rare and endangered species found in the mountainous regions of Central and South Asia, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
