Delhi, 6 February: The Rajya Sabha passed two significant bills aimed at modifying the list of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Tuesday.
The first bill, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024, seeks to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in Andhra Pradesh, while the second bill, the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aims to modify the list for both Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Odisha.
These bills were passed by a voice vote in the Upper House. The bills were presented by the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, who played a significant role in navigating them through the upper house. This move by the Rajya Sabha reflects a commitment towards uplifting and empowering marginalized communities belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in these states.
