Samajwadi Party MP Barq named in FIR for ‘inciting’ riot in Sambhal

Sambhal, 25 November: The administration is taking action on a large scale against those who were involved in stone pelting and arson that took place on Sunday over the survey of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.

In this case, a case of conspiracy to riot has been registered in Sambhal Kotwali against Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rahman Barq and MLA Nawab Iqbal’s son Suhail Iqbal. So far 25 people have been arrested in this case and seven FIRs have been registered in two police stations.

Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi told media persons that 07 FIRs have been registered in two police stations in the Sambhal violence case. In this, MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and SP MLA Nawab Iqbal Mahmood’s son Nawab Suhail Iqbal have also been made accused. They are accused of instigating riots.

He told that Ekta Chowki in-charge Deepak Rathi, who was injured in the attack by the miscreants, has lodged an FIR against 800 unknown people. Zia Ur Rehman Bark and Sohail Iqbal are the named accused. Bark was given a notice earlier as well. He had given provocative speeches earlier as well and he was forbidden to do so. During the speech, he was told earlier also that he should not give such speeches but even after that he incited the crowd and incited people to protect the Jama Masjid. During this time, when the survey work was going on, suddenly the crowd started pelting stones. All the stone pelters had their mouths tied with handkerchiefs. 15 policemen and four officers were injured in the stone pelting.

SDM Ramesh Babu’s leg was fractured. CO Sambhal was shot in the leg. The District Magistrate had formed a committee, which included SDM Sambhal, CO and other officers. They were responsible for completing the survey. When the survey was being conducted on Sunday, these officers tried to pacify the crowd, but the crowd started pelting stones and firing. The CO was shot in the leg. A person named Sanjeev Kumar has also registered a case of robbery.

According to the Superintendent of Police, when he and the DM were patrolling the area, women attacked them with bricks. They also fired, in which the PRO was also injured. A case has also been registered against 150 unknown people in Thana Nakhasa from his side. At present, 22 people have been arrested from Kotwali area and three from Thana Nakhasa area. A total of 25 people have been arrested. The people whose photos have been captured in the drone camera are being marked by making passport size photos. Those who give information about them will also be given a reward.

The Superintendent of Police said that the situation is under control. Some people have opened their shops. Internet service is suspended till further orders and the District Magistrate has been requested to keep it closed tomorrow as well. Strictest action will be taken against the stone pelters.

Moradabad Division Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh said that the situation in Sambhal is calm right now. Constant monitoring is being done there. An FIR has been filed against MP Bark and the son of a local MLA for inciting violence. Four people have died in this incident. The injured are being treated in the hospital. Strict action will be taken against the accused and if needed, NSA will also be imposed.
