New Delhi, 10 November: The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed four weeks time to the Central Government to file its reply on the demand to declare Ram Setu as a national monument.
The court had sought a response from the central government on October 13. During the hearing, the petitioner Subramanian Swamy said that this matter is pending in the Supreme Court for the last eight years but the Central Government has not filed a reply.
The court had also allowed Swamy to submit written arguments. Swamy told the Supreme Court that the government has decided that Ram Setu will not be broken, then, what is the problem in giving permanent protection? During an earlier hearing, the central government had said that it would not remove Ram Setu.
The court had directed the central government to file its reply on Swamy’s application on November 26, 2017. Swamy had said in the petition that he wanted to withdraw the petition filed in 2009, against the Sethusamudram project, as the government had decided not to demolish the mythologically important Ram Setu.
