New Delhi, 22 September: Hearing a petition seeking registration of an FIR against two DMK leaders, Udhayanidhi Stalin and A Raja, for making controversial statements on Sanatan Dharma, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Tamil Nadu government, Udhayanidhi Maran, A Raja, and the CBI. The same court has refused to tag these petitions with hate speech cases.
Three petitions have been filed with the Supreme Court in this matter. A petition has been filed by Himanshu Kumar, a resident of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.
The second petition has been filed by Chennai lawyer B Jagannath, and the third petition has been filed by Delhi lawyer Naveen Jindal. Jagannath’s petition demands that the programmes against Sanatan be declared unconstitutional. The cross-border funding of these leaders should be investigated.
Naveen Jindal’s petition demands contempt proceedings against Delhi Police and Tamil Nadu Police for not following the Supreme Court guidelines on hate speech.
The petition said that in his statement, Udhayanidhi Maran had compared Sanatan Dharma to dengue, mosquitoes, malaria, and corona. Udhayanidhi Maran had talked about destroying Sanatan Dharma.
Regarding Udayanidhi Stalin’s controversial statement on Sanatan Dharma on September 5, 262 intellectuals of the country have written a letter to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud demanding that the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance of this hate speech and take contempt of court action against Udayanidhi.
