New Delhi, 31st January: The Supreme Court has refused to hear a plea seeking a ban on the release of the film ‘Why I Killed Gandhi’ on OTT platforms or social media.
A bench headed by Justice Indira Banerjee told the petitioner that your fundamental right has not been violated. If you want, you can approach the High Court.
The petition was filed by Sikandar Bahl. During the hearing, advocate Anuj Bhandari, appearing for the petitioner, said that if the film’s release is not banned, it will cause great damage to the image of the Father of the Nation. This will create discontent and hatred among the people. It has been said in the petition that an attempt has been made to create communal tension and hatred through this film.
The petition states that the 2 minute 20 second trailer in the film has tried to defame Gandhi by declaring him responsible for the partition of India.
The petition sought to regulate the content of OTT. It was said in the petition that even before the release of the film on OTT, the green signal of the Central Board of Film Certification has not been taken.
