New Delhi, September 18: The Supreme Court has relieved the SIT formed to investigate the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case in Uttar Pradesh in 2021 and former Punjab-Haryana High Court judge Rakesh Kumar Jain, who is monitoring the SIT investigation.
The Supreme Court said that the investigation in this case has been completed, the charge sheet has been filed, and the trial has started. Therefore, the work of SIT is now over.
The court said that if there is a need for further reorganisation of the SIT, then the Deputy Commissioner will give orders in this regard. On January 25, the Supreme Court granted interim bail of 8 weeks to Ashish Mishra.
The court had said that they would have to leave UP within a week of getting bail, and they would not be able to live in UP or Delhi.
Taking suo motu cognizance of this case, the Supreme Court had also granted interim bail to four farmers lodged in another case related to this incident, who are accused of beating them to death after the incident.
The Supreme Court made it clear that if Ashish Mishra or his family try to influence the trial in any way, bail will be cancelled. Eight people were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3, 2021.
