New Delhi, 18 July: The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking worship of the Shivling found inside the Gyanvapi complex on July 21.
Advocate Vishnu Jain mentioned the petition before a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana and sought hearing, after which the Supreme Court ordered a hearing on July 21 along with the petition of the Anjuman Intajamiya Masajid Committee.
Petition has demanded that the Kashi Vishwanath Trust should take possession of the Shivling and make arrangements for live streaming of worship of Shivling. Petition stated that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) should get the carbon dating of Shivling done.
A petition on the Gyanvapi case has been filed in the Supreme Court by Rajesh Mani Tripathi, president of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Mukti Sthal.
The petitioner has sought permission to perform the puja as per his religious customs. It has been said in the petition that under Article 25 of the Constitution, he has the right to worship according to religious rituals. The month of Sawan has started, so he should be allowed to perform Jalabhishek on the Shivling found in the survey.
On May 20, the Supreme Court transferred the case of Gyanvapi Masjid complex to the District Judge of Varanasi. The court had said that the matter be given to an experienced judicial officer of the Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial Service for hearing.
The court had said that selected portions of the commission should not be leaked to the media. The report should be submitted to the court. The court had said that whatever application has been filed by both the parties before the Senior Division Civil Judge, it will also be considered by the District Judge. The court had said that the order to seal the Shivling and no entry for offering prayers will continue till further orders.
