Shahjahanpur BJP MP Arun Sagar declared absconder

Shahjahanpur, 23 November: Shahjahanpur District Court declared Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha MP Arun Sagar as an absconder after he failed to appear before it in connection with a case pertaining to seizure of poll material in 2019.

Judge Asma Sultana declared him an absconder on November 21. During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the then SDM Sadar had seized the campaign material of BJP candidate Sagar on the Bareilly-Jalalabad road.

A Special Public Prosecutor of MP-MLA Court on Wednesday said, ?Arun Sagar has been declared absconder in a case of bringing election material without the permission of the concerned authority during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He was repeatedly asked to appear in the court but he did not appear. In the same case, earlier a non-bailable warrant was issued against him as he did not appear in the court.”

In 2019, on March 12, the then Deputy Collector Sadar/Assistant Returning Officer 136 Vidhansabha constituency Dadraul Ved Singh Chauhan saw the propaganda material of the then BJP candidate Arun Sagar on the Bareilly-Jalalabad road in village Rasulapur under Cantt police station area put up without permission. On his complaint, charges were registered in Kant police station.

Arun Sagar did not appear in the court in this case, due to which the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. When BJP MP Arun Sagar did not appear in the court even after the warrant was issued, the court declared him an absconder under Section 82 of the CrPC in its November 21 order, according to Special Public Prosecution Officer Neelima Saxena.

The court said the copy of the order should be pasted at the residence of the MP as well as at other public places.
