New Delhi, 14 May: An avalanche hit 17-18 groups of soldiers in North Sikkim area on Thursday morning.

A statement issued by the army said that an army team had gone to the Lugnak La area of ​​North Sikkim to patrol and clear the snow. Meanwhile, they were hit by a sudden avalanche.

The army said that one jawan is still missing while all the other jawans have been safely rescued.

In fact, an avalanche in Sikkim on Thursday morning has affected the Lugnak La region. In the same area in the morning, the army patrol was going with the Snow Clearance Party. Then, due to the sudden avalanche, about 17-18 soldiers were hit by snow. After the disappearance of all these, the relief and rescue teams immediately started a search operation. An army team was also deployed on this operation.

According to initial reports, more than 10 soldiers and two officers were reported missing but after extensive investigation, all soldiers were found, except one who is still said to be missing.

Army sources said that almost all the soldiers have been rescued. A young man is still missing, who is being searched.

The Indian Army has also confirmed this incident happened with its soldiers. The recovered soldiers are safe and sound. The avalanche has occurred at high altitude, so a search operation to find the missing soldier is underway despite the threats.
