Lucknow, 18 January: With the aim of improving the electricity system in the state and giving consumers the right over electricity use, the work of installing smart meters is underway rapidly in the entire state. Electricity department officials say that some middlemen are spreading many kinds of misconceptions about smart meters among consumers, one of which is that installing smart meters costs money.
Departmental officials told that consumers should get smart meters installed with full confidence without getting misled in any way. This meter is completely free. Not even a single rupee is charged for installing it. If any person, even if it is the meter installing employee, asks you for even a rupee, then you should immediately call the toll free number 1912 and complain about it.
Legal action will be taken against the concerned person by the department.
Up to 40 percent of armoured cables are being installed free of cost
It is worth mentioning that the work of installing smart meters in every house is in progress across the state. In this, smart meters are being installed by replacing the old meters, which is completely free. Even up to 40 percent of armoured cables from pole to house of consumers are being installed completely free of cost.
But some brokers are misleading the consumers. This is the reason why it has been clarified by the Electricity Department that consumers do not need to spend even a single rupee for smart meters. It has also been clarified by the department that if any technician demands money from the consumer in the name of armoured cable, changing meter or connection, then immediately call 1912 and register a complaint. The department is very serious about this and legal and departmental action will be taken against such elements, even if they are departmental employees, as per the rules.
