So far 36.14 crore RuPay debit cards issued under PMJDY, informs Fin Ministry

New Delhi, August 28: Ten years of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) have been completed. This scheme is the world’s largest financial inclusion initiative. Under PMJDY, 36.14 crore RuPay debit cards have been issued till August 14, 2024, whereas in 2015 this number was 13.15 crore. Under financial inclusion, accident insurance cover of up to Rs 2 lakh is also provided to the RuPay debit card holder.

The Finance Ministry on Wednesday gave detailed information about the features of RuPay PMJDY debit card on the successful completion of a decade of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), the national mission for financial inclusion in the country.

The ministry said that the RuPay PMJDY debit card holder does not need any PIN for withdrawals up to Rs 5,000 per contactless transaction. This card allows the user to transact at all ATMs, POS terminals and e-commerce websites. According to the ministry, the

RuPay PMJDY debit card holder is allowed to make three contactless transactions per day. At the same time, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) also provides accidental death and permanent total disability insurance with a coverage of Rs 2 lakh.

It is worth mentioning that under the financial inclusion PMJDY, the government has issued 36.14 crore RuPay debit cards till August 14, 2024, while in 2015 this number was 13.15 crore. RuPay Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) card is issued to those who have opened accounts under PMDJY.
