Lucknow, 13 Sept: The Samajwadi Party called the Income Tax Department’s searches on Azam Khan and others associated with him “dictatorship” and a “misuse of central agencies” on Wednesday. It further said that the people will vote against BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Income Tax department raided around 30 locations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday as part of a tax fraud investigation into Khan, a former Samajwadi Party MP, and people associated with him, according to official sources.

The searches are being carried out in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, Saharanpur, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, as well as some establishments in neighboring Madhya Pradesh, they added.

The Samajwadi Party stated on X, “Azam Khan saheb is the voice of truth. He established a university for education and lay the groundwork for a better future for children. Azam (Khan) saheb has always battled communal forces. Today, we are all linked by his voice. The BJP administration should put an end to tyranny and the abuse of federal agencies. The BJP should remember that dictators’ egos will definitely end, and the people will respond in 2024,” it added in a post in Hindi.

Without naming anyone, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav also blasted the administration over the raids. “The weaker the government becomes, the more raids on the opposition will increase,” Yadav told X. According to the sources, the Income Tax investigation is tied to various trusts run by Khan and his family members.
