Lucknow, 28 July: The Samajwadi Party chose Mata Prasad Pandey as the
opposition leader in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative assembly. Pandey will succeed SP
president Akhilesh Yadav, who resigned as MLA for Karhal after being elected to
the Lok Sabha from Kannauj.
Yadav has nominated Pandey, an SP MLA from Itwa, as the opposition’s leader in the
assembly, according to a party leader.
The decision was made after a meeting of
MLAs at the SP headquarters here. Pandey, a Brahmin, was the former speaker of
the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
