Lucknow, 19 February: The Congress has been given 17 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, according to the Samajwadi Party, and its head Akhilesh Yadav has stated that if the proposal is approved, he will participate in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Raebareli.

“We made the Congress a last offer of 17 Lok Sabha seats. Akhilesh Yadav’s participation in the Nyay Yatra in Raebareli on Tuesday is contingent on their approval, according to Rajendra Chaudhary, the Samajwadi Party’s main spokesman. He declined, however, to specify the seats provided to Congress. On Monday, the Gandhi-led yatra will travel through Amethi. It would then enter Raebareli, where the Samajwadi Party head has already stated his intention to participate.

According to a Congress statement released on Sunday, party head Mallikarjun Kharge will join the yatra, which is presently taking place at Pratapgarh, in Amethi. The Samajwadi Party had previously allocated 11 seats to the grand old party, but the Congress’ state unit requested a larger allotment. Ajay Rai, the Congress’ Uttar Pradesh unit president, has previously stated that the party should retain about two dozen seats gained in the 2009 general elections.

The INDIA alliance of opposition parties includes the Samajwadi Party and the Congress.

The Congress won just the Raebareli seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. At 80, the state sends the most MPs to Parliament.
