SP’s social media chief ‘booked’ for derogatory remarks against party’s ex female candidate

Prayagraj, 19 Aug: Manish Jagan Agarwal, the social media coordinator for the Samajwadi Party, has been booked for allegedly writing insulting and abusive messages against former Allahabad University student union president Richa Singh, according to authorities.

Singh ran for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly seat of Prayagraj on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 2017 and 2022. She emerged runner up in both the polls and trounced by former UP minister Siddharthnath Singh.

An FIR has been filed against Agarwal at the Shivkuti police station on the basis of a complaint filed by Richa Singh, who claimed to have been targeted by him on the social networking site X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the FIR, Agarwal, who handles the Samajwadi Party’s official X account, used very abusive and obscene language in response to a tweet by Singh on August 17.

According to the FIR, Agarwal openly threatened to embarrass and slander her on social media and other platforms.

The police filed a FIR based on the complaint under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
