New Delhi, March 6: Betting and gambling are strictly prohibited under the Public Gambling Act, 1867. Despite this, online betting platforms and apps are advertising betting and gambling either directly or under the guise of gaming. Coming under their influence, the youth are being financially and socio-economically affected.

Keeping all these issues in mind, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a comprehensive advisory.

The advisory given as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 emphasizes on prohibiting advertising, promotion and endorsement of illegal activities. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has already warned media platforms in this regard.

The government says that strict action will be taken against the promotion of betting and gambling under the guise of gaming. The action will be applicable to advertisements placed using any type of medium. It also has a clear warning for celebrities and influential people. It states that every person involved in the promotion or advertising of online gambling and betting is accountable.
