New York/ Kabul, 20 Aug: The proposal to extend international travel permission to 13 Taliban officials received support from Russia and China only. The United Nations Security Council is set to ban international tour of Taliban officials. Earlier sanctions against 135 officials were imposed. Of them 13 were granted exemption, which expired on August 19. Further extension was refused by the UN.

Taliban after taking over failed to remove restrictions upon women and also failed to form inclusive government in Afghanistan as was assured. A few officials were granted exemption from international travel, so that they can make efforts to establish peace in Afghanistan. Out of the 13, the UN proposed ban on seven officials, the rest six will be able to visit Qatar only. Russia and China proposed to allow international visits to all 13 officials for another 90 days, which was opposed by Britain, France and Ireland.

The US proposal was amended and it withdrew condition six officials of touring Qatar only. They can be allowed to undertake foreign visits without any geographical limits for another 90 days.

Russia and China are thinking over the amended proposal.
